This is a collective work bringing together contributions intended to trace and explain the evolution of republicanism as it manifests itself in the history of Geneva, beginning with the promulgation of the first civil and political edicts of Calvin (1543) through the post-revolutionary period (1798–1815), marked by the annexation by France and subsequently by integration into the Swiss Confederation.
