The recent heat waves of the summer of 2026 in France have once again brought to the forefront of media attention the fragility of the infrastructure and objects that make up our daily lives: damaged transformers, overwhelmed hospital services, neighborhoods without electricity or water, parched urban vegetation, etc. The first question raised by this type of event is “how do we fix it?” Among the various aspects of the sequence we have just outlined, one of the least tangible is nonetheless essential to the proper functioning of our systems: the daily work of caring for and maintaining objects and infrastructure.
