This one-day online research workshop is part of a program run by the Château de Versailles Research Center, devoted to the social, material and cultural history of foreign diplomats in Paris in the modern era (from the Treaties of Westphalia in 1648 to the end of the French Ancien Régime in 1792). The program aims to shift the focus to the individuals who brought diplomacy to life on a daily basis, from ambassadors to secretaries, from nuncios to residents, without neglecting their entourage of wives, families and domestic staff. The aim is to examine their sociabilities, their material and symbolic cultures, and the networks they weave within the urban and curial environment.
