    The aim of the Master 2 in Energy Law is to acquire strong legal skills in the field of energy, a cutting-edge sector undergoing rapid change (energy transition and the fight against climate change, development of renewable energies, liberalisation of markets, etc.);energy transition and the fight against climate change, the development of renewable energies, the liberalisation of markets and the restructuring of the nuclear industry).

    The Master 2 provides an opportunity to learn energy law in all its aspects (domestic public and private law, international and European law), covering all sectors of the energy industry;all energy sectors (electricity, gas, renewable energies and energy conomies, nuclear energy, nuclear power, etc.);nergies, fossil fuels), while offering a multi-disciplinary perspective through scientific, geopolitical, economic and financial studies, enabling students to develop their knowledge and skills;tudiants to acquire a global understanding of energy law and policy, their evolutions and their challenges.

  • TARGETED STUDENTS

    &Students with a Master 1 in law or equivalent.

  • ADMISSION CONDITIONS

    This course is open to students in their first year of a Master's degree. Access is subject to the submission of an application. The conditions for access to Master 2 vary depending on whether or not students have completed their first year of the Master's programme within the field (students with or without the right to access Master 2).

  • STRUCTURE AND ORGANISATION

    The Master 2 Droit de l'énergie is one of the courses in the Droit de l'environnement major. It is available as a standard initial course, as a sandwich course (apprenticeship contract) or as continuing education (without timetable adjustments). The courses are taught at the Aix-en-Provence Faculty of Law and Political Science, and involve an annual timetable of around 400 hours.

    For apprentices, the alternating work-study schedule allows for gradual and increasing immersion in the host company throughout the year (one week in the company in September, then two weeks per month in October and December, then three weeks per month in January and June, and finally two full months in July and August).

  • LEARNING AND RESEARCH

    Students are given an introduction to research, which they put into practice through oral presentations, reports or dissertations. They are invited to take part in scientific events (colloquia, seminars, etc.) related to the topics taught, organised by the affiliated research unit (UMR 7318 DICE) and the Faculty of Law.

  • KNOWLEDGE TO BE ACQUIRED

    The Energy Law pathway enables students to learn about all aspects of energy law and to acquire useful knowledge of domestic public and private law as well as international and European law;international and European law, while covering all energy sectors (electricity, gas, renewable energy and energy conomies, fossil fuels). The master's degree also offers a multidisciplinary perspective through scientific, geopolitical, economic and financial studies.

  • PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED

    Skills and competences to be acquired:

    - In-depth knowledge of energy law and litigation

    - Mastery of the legal, economic and political issues surrounding energy

    - Litigation prevention and management (legal advice, drafting of applications, summonses, pleadings, submissions, etc.)

    - Assistance to private companies and public bodies

    - Drafting of reports, contracts, articles of association

    - Preparation of project set-up documents and responses to calls for tenders

    - Handling legal files

    - Analytical and synthesis skills

    - Written and spoken expression skills

    - Understanding of field situations

  • INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS

    Students enrolled on sandwich courses work in a company or law firm for several weeks a month. Students not enrolled in a sandwich course must write a research dissertation and may complete an internship.

    Supervised projects are organised throughout the course period, particularly as part of the legal clinic (study of actual cases, drafting of notes, draft deeds...).

    The Master's programme offers diversified and innovative teaching methods designed to encourage students to enter the world of work, thanks to:

    - the possibility of completing the second year of the Master's programme on a sandwich course,

    - the presence of numerous professional contributors (legal directors, lawyers, etc.),

    - the practical application of knowledge through group work and site visits (a visit to a power plant, for example),

    - participation à the legal clinic of environmental and energy rights

    In the current context of energy transition, the energy sector is undergoing many changes, generating recruitment needs for companies in the sector and stakeholders.

    Graduates can apply for a wide range of positions, in both the private and public sectors: experts or consultants; specialized lawyers - subject to obtaining the CAPA -; lawyers in the legal and/or litigation departments of private and public companies in the energy sector, in the energy/environment departments of local authorities and public establishments, in national, European and international institutions in the energy sector, or in legal departments specialized in financing energy projects - banks, investment funds...
