The French School of Athens is a public scientific, cultural and professional establishment under the authority of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. It is based in Athens. Its fundamental mission is to develop research and research training in all disciplines relating to ancient, Byzantine, modern and contemporary Greece. As such, it is a center for research in the humanities and social sciences on the Hellenic and Balkan world. The École française d'Athènes welcomes scientific members appointed by the Director of the École for a period of one year, renewable a maximum of three times, on the recommendation of the École's Scientific Council and after consultation with an admissions committee.
