Religious traditions are closely linked to ways of thinking, organizing and living time. Even in the most secularized societies, collective time retains the imprint of the religious matrix. This is evident in calendars (whether Gregorian, Julian or Hegira), as well as in certain "rites of passage". In all these dimensions, religious time is a powerful matrix of collective experience. It concentrates the intensity of experience in feasts and ceremonies that allow us to experience a before and an after, and attest to the active power of the religious institution.
