With a strong focus on historical and economic studies, the grants support projects related to technology, businesses, and, more broadly, industrial societies. To encourage young researchers and doctoral students to showcase their research in the humanities, social sciences, or public health related to Alzheimer’s disease, the Médéric Alzheimer Foundation is offering support for participation in a scientific presentation through a call for applications.

Overview

This support is intended for students enrolled in a doctoral program in the humanities and social sciences (psychology, sociology, economics, law, anthropology, demography, philosophy, linguistics, political science, education, nursing, etc.) or public health at a French university in 2025–2026 whose research focuses on Alzheimer’s disease.

The support covers a scientific presentation at one of the proposed events or at a conference of the candidate’s choice within their discipline and will take the form of a contribution toward conference registration fees, accommodation, and/or travel expenses, up to a maximum of €5,000 upon submission of receipts.

Only one application per young researcher will be accepted. If the presentation is not selected, the funding may be used for another event, provided that this event was mentioned at the time of application; otherwise, reimbursement of the amount will be required.

In practice 

• Applies to a scientific presentation at an event or conference of the applicant’s choice within their discipline. 
• Will take the form of a contribution toward covering expenses (registration, accommodation, and/or travel).
• Only one application per young researcher will be accepted

• Must be enrolled in a doctoral program in the humanities and social sciences or public health at a French university.
•  The research must fall within the field of cognitive aging and focus on Alzheimer’s disease.

In honor of the medievalist Eugen Ewig (1913-2006), initiator, founder and first director of the German Center for Historical Research, driven by the idea of reconciliation, IHA helps post-docs preparing to become professors in their search for project funding. The four-month fellowship should be used to prepare an application for individual project funding or, preferably, to set up a research group in line with the Institute's thematic axes. The duration of the fellowship may be extended until the decision of the third-party organization (up to a maximum of eight months), if the candidate has succeeded in submitting a promising funding application.

IHA makes its infrastructure available to the grant-holder to prepare a dossier and, if successful, carry out the project if the candidate participates in IHA's scientific life by organizing a study day, for example.

IHA scholarships are open to applicants from the German scientific community, regardless of nationality. Applications for start-up grants can be submitted at any time.

Applicants are required to submit an application for individual project funding or, preferably, to form a research group in line with the Institute's thematic focus.

The German Historical Institute (IHA) is a research center of the public foundation“Max Weber – Deutsche Geisteswissenschaftliche Institute im Ausland.” We operate under the motto “Research – Outreach – Training” in the field of French, Franco-German, and Western European history—from Late Antiquity to the present day—and play a leading role in fostering dialogue between Germany and France.

Digital history and African history are complementary areas of research. Issues of migration and mobility, the examination of how past societies addressed these contemporary challenges, as well as international relations and diplomacy, are key themes in our work.

The German Historical Institute is seeking to hire, effective October 1, 2026 (or a mutually agreed-upon date), a postdoctoral researcher for the Department of Medieval History (m/f/x). This three-year postdoctoral contract, with the possibility of extension up to six years, is intended to support the completion of an academic qualification and enables the completion of a research project (habilitation thesis or book).

The position is based in Paris.

Overview

This funding is open to students enrolled in a doctoral program at a French university in the humanities and social sciences (psychology, sociology, economics, law, anthropology, demography, philosophy, linguistics, political science, education, nursing, architecture, design…) or public health, whose research focuses on:

• societal issues arising from Alzheimer’s disease and/or other related diseases: law, ethics, the impact of the disease on family and friends…
• improving the quality of life for people with the disease and their family, volunteer, or professional caregivers.

Five doctoral students will be supported in 2026.

Please note!

• Doctoral students currently receiving funding (doctoral contract, CIFRE contract, etc.) or those who are employed are not eligible to apply.
• Biomedical research projects are not eligible.

Amount: Up to €40,000 per year, renewable twice.

Must be enrolled at a French university in the humanities and social sciences (psychology, sociology, economics, law, anthropology, demography, philosophy, linguistics, political science, education, nursing sciences, etc.) or in public health, whose work is conducted within a research laboratory and focuses on the societal challenges posed by Alzheimer’s disease and/or other related diseases and/or the improvement of the quality of life for patients and their family caregivers, volunteers, or professionals, and who do not have funding.

The award is presented each December during the association’s General Assembly. A meeting between the winner and the award’s partners is organized the day before the General Assembly to facilitate an in-depth discussion of the winning work. The winner agrees to write a summary article, which will be published in “La Revue,” the Alefpa journal, and to provide a short video presentation, which will be available on the association’s website.

Nature of the award: €1,500

The projects must address individuals facing social challenges or living with a physical, intellectual, or mental disability. They will address education or training, support mechanisms, care provision, factors contributing to exclusion, and the limitations of institutional care… In particular, they should explore ways to promote prevention, collective solidarity and its tools, these groups’ path to autonomy, and their status as citizens in society. These studies may also explore the impact of public policies, the legal framework for protection and inclusion, economic and financial mechanisms that promote autonomy or employment, and the organization and management of medical-social and educational institutions.The relevant disciplines include educational sciences, psychology, sociology, political science, law, economics, and management sciences, as well as medical disciplines, architecture, and cultural mediation.

A partnership with the candidate and/or the laboratory from which they come may be proposed. Alefpa staff are eligible to apply.

The dissertation must have been defended within the two years preceding the competition deadline and must be written in French.

The Center for 19th-Century History (University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne / Sorbonne University) and the Journal of 19th-Century History (Society for the History of the 1848 Revolution and the Revolutions of the 19th Century) aim to encourage and promote research in 19th-century history. To this end, they have decided to award an annual prize recognizing the best Master’s 2 thesis on 19th-century history (1818–1914), covering all relevant regions.

The thesis must be written in French and must have been defended between June 1 and September 30 of the academic year.
