Taking the context of Mayotte as its starting point – viewed as a prime vantage point for observing contemporary changes in secularism – the conference will analyse the tensions between republican universalism, diversity, equality and freedom of conscience. It will focus in particular on the philosophical, historical, legal and institutional dimensions of secularism, on educational practices and the development of citizenship, as well as on the challenges of combating discrimination and inequality.

The international and interdisciplinary conference ‘Secularism and Education in the Mayotte Context: Religious Pluralism, Cultural Diversity, Equality and Educational Challenges’, to be held on 25 and 26 March 2027 at the University of Mayotte
