The France-Quebec Research Chair on Contemporary Issues in Freedom of Expression (Colibex) is organizing workshops on the four themes of the Chair: "Freedom of expression, democracy and fundamental human rights: what regulation", "Freedom of expression, religious beliefs and identities", "Knowledge, science and freedom of expression", as well as "Censorship and creation".

Do emotions undermine democracy, as is often thought? Or do intense emotions, on the contrary, have an important political function, particularly in democratic regimes? It seems that emotions can build and sustain democracies, but also threaten or even destroy them. This series of round-table discussions addresses the ambivalent role of emotional manifestations in contemporary democracies. Through four historical case studies, it extends a current of research that is currently making waves in Germany and France: the history of emotions.
