This conference takes place at a time when images of violence are part of our daily lives. A few days before this call for papers was published, videos emerged showing police officers maiming minors during the high school student protest movement. These images, which unfortunately echo others (from the United States, Palestine, Sainte-Soline, Ukraine…), lie at the heart of the motivations behind this event: to collectively examine the conditions of violence and its visual representations so as not to succumb to the inertia of shock.
