2 Disciplinary fields - notion of foresight (summary)
Foresight is not an academic discipline and it develops within all existing disciplines, be they engineering sciences, natural sciences, political sciences, economics, social sciences, etc. Foresight works are, by nature, very diverse. One can distinguish, however, three types of thesis in foresight:
- Theses on foresight as such, approached from different angles: methodological contributions on the conception and practice of foresight; studies of an epistemological nature on the development of foresight within organizations that use it or project themselves into the future.
- Theses dealing with a subject of the future, for example sustainable development, the city, democracy, etc.; they use, in particular, scenarios, or forecasting models, or case studies, etc.
- Theses using foresight as a method of analysis of a socio-economic or other object, for example a territory, an industry, a sector, etc.
