1 General framework of the scheme (summary)

The Louise-Dechêne Prize is awarded every twenty-four months to the best thesis in the history of French America successfully defended during the last two years.

The prize consists of a grant of 500 Canadian dollars for the best thesis on the history of French America defended between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2022.

The prize is governed by the following rules:

  • The thesis must have been written in French or English, regardless of the university (Canadian or foreign) and the nationality of the author.
  • The term "French America" extends well beyond Quebec and includes French-speaking minorities on the North American continent.
  • The jury will take into account three criteria: originality of the contribution to the history of French America, quality of the research and methodology, and rigor of the intellectual approach.
