The French School of Athens is a public scientific, cultural and professional institution under the authority of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. Its headquarters are in Athens. Its fundamental mission is to develop research and research training in all disciplines related to ancient, Byzantine, modern and contemporary Greece. As such, it is a research center in the humanities and social sciences on the Hellenic and Balkan world. The École française d'Athènes welcomes scientific members appointed by the director of the École for a period of one year, renewable a maximum of three times, on the proposal of the École's scientific council after the advice of an admissions committee.
