The IJEP is an open access journal that users have the right to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full text of articles.   Since the 1980s, we have witnessed a succession of crises largely linked to the dominant economic system, based on the objective of growth and to which both humans and nature find themselves subjugated. More than ever, the seriousness of these crises calls for the identification of the interstices through which social transformations can take place, bringing solidarity, emancipation and, more fundamentally, a renewed relationship with the Earth. CRISES' tradition of research into social innovations provides an exceptional starting point for thinking about social innovations as sources of resistance. It also calls for us to move away from disciplinary silos and address the complexity of today's issues in a cross-disciplinary, cross-sectoral way, bridging the gap between research and action. This call for papers thus echoes approaches that address a number of complex issues in various fields, including democratic participation, economics, ecology and technology.

These owners, who are mostly "natural persons" rather than capitalized companies, have been little studied, even though they occupy a nodal position in the manufacture of urban inequalities and social relations linked to housing (Delon, Vignal, 2022). By focusing on the spaces that landlords invest in and the ordinary strategies they employ to extract rental income, this issue ofEspaces et sociétés aims to contribute to an emerging issue in French and international urban research.

  Smart grids are often seen as decision aids for defining electricity supply and demand levels to guide energy trajectories. They reflect the combination of digital transition and energy transition, enabling real-time management of electricity supply. They are all the more essential given the intermittent nature of renewable energy production. As early as 2011, the European Commission saw smart grids as the backbone of a low-carbon energy future. But the success of the energy transition depends on the relevance of the energy policies implemented, and on consumer acceptability. In this sense, the energy transition is also the transition of a socio-technical system. This call for papers examines the social reception of smart grids, the perception of their uses and their deployment model. This special issue is intended to illustrate the wide range of social science research (action research, fundamental research, participatory research) into existing systems and networks.
