Since 2005, a prize has been awarded for a thesis in the social and human sciences on the history of the slave trade, slavery and its abolition during the colonial era, or on its consequences in today's world. Created by the Comité national pour la mémoire de l'esclavage, since 2020 this prize has been awarded by the Fondation pour la mémoire de l'esclavage, on the decision of a jury made up of members of the foundation's Scientific Council.
