In order to encourage research in the humanities and social sciences and to strengthen public interest in the Pompidou years (1962-1974), his action and his work, the Georges Pompidou Institute awards each year a "Georges Pompidou Institute Thesis Prize", rewarding a thesis in French or translated into French.

The Centre d'histoire du XIXe siècle (UR 3550 Université Paris 1 - Sorbonne Université), in partnership with the Société d'histoire de la révolution de 1848 et des révolutions du XIXe siècle, wishing to pay homage to the memory of Professor Dominique Kalifa (1957-2020) and wishing to promote the history of the 19th century in its broadest sense, has decided to create an annual prize intended to reward a doctoral dissertation on the history of the 19th century (1800-1939).

To this end, they have decided to award a prize each year for the best Master's thesis on the history of the 19th century (1818-1914), regardless of the area concerned.

The thesis must be written in French and defended between June 1st and September 30th of the academic year.
